Monday May 5

I agree that a lot of people miss a lot of things do to technology. Technology takes up a lot of people's time these days and they use that to talk to their friends instead of actually hanging out with them, and even when they do hang out together most of their time is spent on technology and nothing else. I also disagree with him to a point because you can meet people on the internet and become friends with them which can lead to travel later in your life to see them.

What is a 'splash page'? Look it up. Explain what they are and how they are used. Find an example of a splash page in Google Images. Save the image to you computer and then upload it to your blog post.

It's the page that you see before you officially enter a website that is typically promoting something. They are used to draw the users eye to that thing they are promoting and make them want to check it out more, it's basically like an advertisement. It works by being the first thing that pops up when you go to that website, it will have the thing being promoted and a button on there typically at the bottom that allows you to enter the full website.

What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is. Do you agree or disagree with the writer?

I think it is interesting to see things from a teachers point of view. The teacher is trying to say that he doesn't care just about the grades or the learning, he also cares about the students as people. He is also trying to say school isn't just about learning it's also about the social part and dealing with the little problems, such as gossip, to become mentally and emotionally stronger. The main event is basically learning how to deal with the simple things that can effect you and make your life harder. I agree with the writer that school really does teach you about how to deal with the simple things that can easily make your life difficult, it really helps with work and other things just like it.

Status update! Tell me where  you are at on your product website? Can you be finished by tomorrow at the end of the hour? Do you need more time? How much more time? Be honest and explain yourself.

I've got like 4 pages done on my website. I feel like I can get quite a bit of it done today. I don't think I will be able to finish by tomorrow at the end of the hour though. I'm probably gonna need the block day to finish.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

For Spring Break I went to St. Louis for the Neon Lights Tour. I got to meet Fifth Harmony twice and met some people. I also got a job and worked for two days. At work I was in charge of taking money from the drive thru. Other than that I did nothing but sit at home watching tv.

Do you like the layout of this project? Have you benefited from your brainstorming sheet? Was it more helpful or annoying when starting to map out your website? Explain why.

Yes I like the layout of this project. I highly benefited from the brainstorming sheet and I believe it was more helpful because you aren't just going out on a whim to see what your website turns out to look like and you already have the basics laid out so you just have to copy it.

After reading below to see where you should be on your product website - are you caught up? What helps you stay caught up in class? Do you like having small checkpoints? Are you behind? If so, what are you going to do to get caught up?

I'm a little behind on my product website. I just have to make my footer and I will be all caught up with the things that should be done today. Having small check points really helps because you know what you have to have done by a certain time, which makes it easier to stay caught up.

What idea do you have that is going to make you product website different, unique or unlike anyone else? If you're answer is you don't know - it's time to start THINKING. Explain your idea.

I'm going to make a collage with different kinds of logos for my website to make it unique. Since I'm doing website that sells clothing with bands/tv shows/movies/music artists I'm taking all their logos and throwing them into one picture.

What product have you decided to feature/sell on your product website? Explain why you've chosen this product and remember, the sky is the limit on this project!

I decided to feature shirts with famous people on them and/or lyrics or lines from movies/tv shows. I chose this because I know where to find a lot of them to use for my website.

What effect can a color scheme have on a website? How can it make a website better? How can it make a website worse? Explain why color is important.

Color scheme can make a website look better and more appealing to the eye. It makes it better by making it easier to look at and it is aesthetically pleasing. It can make a website worse by having colors that clash so you can't read the words or see the links. Color is important so that people can see what is on your website and not have to strain their eyes.

What did you learn about file types as you created and designed your travel website? What are some other kinds of file types you know of? What do these different files do? Explain.

I learned that once a file is a .png it can't be changed unless you have the document it originated from saved as an editable document. Other types of files I know of are .jpg which is a picture, you can put it in photo shop to edit if you want but the you won't be creating the image. Another file I know of is a .gif, I know that these are created from videos and are just a small fragment of that video and is typically only 6-10 seconds long, they also have no sound on them.

1. .jpg
2. .gif
3 .ppt
4 .docx
5 .png
6 .psd
7. .html
8. .pdf
9 .exe

What was your takeaway from this Travel Site? What did you learn that you didn't know before? How will the knowledge of how we built this site help you improve your future websites?

I learned how to apply photoshopped pictures to a website. I also learned what and ap div was and how to make it. The last thing I learned was how to use the scrool over option that changes the picture which is like using a link to a new page, but not. This will allow my websites to be better because there won't be as many links for people to click on and there will be some scroll over options.

How can Photoshop be a valuable tool in web design? Explain. It can help you manipulate photos to better fit your project. It can also allow you to make your own images that you can use to create a website, such as a header or footer to the website. Using it to make those images allows you to make your website really look the way you want it to all while keeping it original.

What do you know about Photoshop? Have you used it before? What can it do? Are you an expert? A newbie? Tell me about your background and what you already know.

I know a lot about Photoshop because I used it for all my projects in digital imaging. I know that you can very easily manipulate pictures to make someone or something to make it look completely different than what it normally looks like. It can cut, multiply, filter, color, and almost anything else you can think of to manipulate a photo. I wouldn't consider myself an expert at Photoshop but I can work it pretty well. As I said in the beginning I have taken digital imaging and used Photoshop for all those projects, I have used quite a bit of all the available tools while in that class to make my projects.

Think about how a user (me or anyone else using your site) might function and interact with your site. What are some important functional features to make your website easy to work with? How can you make it easier for the user and not frustrating? Explain why this is so important.

Some important functional features to make a website easy to work with are visible links, I've been on some websites that have links that aren't very easily seen and the only way you know is by accidentally hovering over that link and it's frustrating.  You can make it easier by making your links easy to see by making them a color that can be seen compared to your background and by underlining it to make sure they really know it's a link.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

On Saturday I hung out with my friends, we watched random videos from the internet and listened to music. On Sunday I went skating down my driveway in my shoes on the ice and watched the Superbowl with my cousins and grandpa. I didn't do much this weekend.

Tell me about your All About Me site. What are going to be your 4 main content pages? Why did you choose those topics? What big plans do you have for your site that is going to make it different and creative?

My four main content pages on my all about me site are friends, family, free time, and favorites. I chose those topics because they were the only topics I could think of to do for the site. To make this site different I'm going to go out and find some gadgets and gifs to put on it.

What are your thoughts on HTML code? Did you enjoy the coding activity? Do you feel like you learned anything? Explain yourself.

I think HTML coding is easier than it looks, when you look at it in general it looks like a bunch of random words and symbols thrown together but when you actually do it, it makes sense. I thought the activity was ok, it wasn't fun but it was easy. I feel like I learned how to code in the simplest way, but I also learned that making a website based off of HTML coding isn't a fast process.

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

My three day weekend was good. Friday I hung out with my friends watching YouTube videos of Blink 182 unreleased songs and a whole bunch of music videos. On Saturday I just sat around at home doing my homework. On Sunday I went to the Panic! At The Disco concert, we had to get there early to get a good spot so my friends and I wandered around downtown people watching. The concert on the inside was really crowded and a lot of people passed out, but overall the performers were amazing. On Monday I just sat at home and watched tv and played on my iPad.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

I don't agree with this unless you give the original person credit. If you give the original person credit then you aren't taking rather than just sharing it with more people. If you don't give credit to the original person it is wrong and you are stealing it from them.

What do you know about plagiarism? What do you know about plagiarism on the internet? How do web design, the internet and plagiarism all effect each other? Explain

I know that plagiarism is when you take someone's work and pass it off as your own. On the internet people take other people's pictures and repost them as if they took them or made them, some people also use it for their homework if they don't know the answer they can look it up and find other peoples answers and use them. Web design, the internet and plagiarism all effect each other because you can use someone's stuff and use it in web design but not give them credit so it becomes plagiarism.

What do you already know about web design? How it works? Programs you can use? Tools that exist? Anything.

I don't know a whole lot about web design but I do know that you have to have an html code to have a website and all the gadgets on the website. I know to set up a website you can customize the whole thing by changing the background, layout, text, and links. I'm not quite sure how it works but I know it has something to do with the html code. Programs you can use to make a website would be blogger and somewhat tumblr. Tools that exist that can help you are html coders and websites with different gadgets such as hit counters, music players, and  mouse changers.
